Hey there Disney park fans, we have some exciting and bittersweet news for you all. If you follow Wave of the Wand, or if you’re subscribed to our newsletter, you may already know that Disney previously announced that Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World would be rethemed to be a The Princess and the Frog-themed attraction. Disney has given us a new update on this new attraction set to open in 2024.

Disney has already released concept art and a bit about the characters coming to the rethemed ride. During the ESSENCE Festival of Culture 2022, Disney revealed more details on this anticipated attraction. The NEW name for the reimagined Splash Mountain attraction will be Tiana’s Bayou Adventure!

The story of the ride is that Tiana, Naveen, and Louis, will set off on a journey to host a unique Mardi Gras party. Guests will be “active participants” in the ride and it will end with the “ultimate Mardi Gras party.” The attraction will have new music inspired by the film’s soundtrack. There will be new characters alongside the characters from the animated movie. Based on silhouettes of characters in the concept art, at least some may be redressed audio-animatronics from Splash Mountain.

This news is bittersweet to some Disney parks fans, and we get it! Splash Mountain is a beloved classic Magic Kingdom attraction that will certainly be missed. When the Disney Parks officially announced that Splash Mountain would be rethemed as part of Disney’s efforts to bring more diverse representation to the theme parks and remove offensive themes (Song of the South IP), The announcement was met with a variety of responses from Disney fans. Some were very excited and happy to see that The Princess and the Frog (2009) would replace the attraction. While others who found Splash Mountain as classic and iconic went as far as to petition to have the ride remain as-is.

Disney has yet to announce when Splash Mountain will go down for refurbishment. We’ll of course keep you posted on any updates. Be sure to follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest Disney parks news and special offers.
