MagicBands are Coming to Disneyland – Arriving Oct 26th

Hey Disney park fans! If you’ve ever been to Disney World, you’ve at some point have used or at least heard of the MagicBand. The introduction of the MagicBands created a new hassle free way of accessing your park tickets, enter your hotel, access your dining plan, and so much more. For almost 10 years, MagicBands have evolved but failed to appear at Disneyland.

In late 2021 during the D23 Expo, Disney announced that MagicBands would get an update – becoming MagicBands+ and that MagicBands would finally arrive at Disneyland! Recently Disney has released the launch date for Disneyland’s MagicBand, October 26, 2022.

Disneyland Magic Keyholders will get early access to shop for MagicBand+ at Disneyland Resort beginning October 19, 2022. There will also be a special Magi Key band with its own light-up theme. Magic Keyholders can get $10 off the specially-designed Magic Key band, PLUS they can use their discount on available designs.

With this announcement, Disneyland park guests have many questions like: what will the bands be used for at Disneyland? Will MagicBands be required? How much will MagicBands at Disneyland cost? Well let’s review what we know so far!

What are MagicBands?

MagicBands are a device that use RFID technology that connects data linked to your Disneyland App Account (or the My Disney Experience app for Walt Disney World). Like mentioned above, the bands will work as your hotel key, park ticket, allow you to make in-park purchases, scan into your Genie return times and more.

Where Can I Get MagicBand+ Bands For My Disneyland Vacation

You will be able to purchase MagicBand+ Bands at multiple locations including:

  • Downtown Disney District: World of Disney, Disney’s Pin Traders

  • Disneyland park: Emporium, Pioneer Mercantile, Tomorrow Landing (reopening Oct. 26)

  • Disney California Adventure park: Elias & Co., Trolley Treats, Oswald’s, Seaside Souvenirs

  • Hotels of the Disneyland Resort: Disney’s Fantasia Shop, Mickey in Paradise, Acorns Gifts & Goods

  • Online at ShopDisney

What Will MagicBands+ do at Disneyland?

While we do not have all of the details yet, here is what we expect MagicBands+ to be capable of doing at Disneyland. We predicted that it will be very similar to Disney World. Here’s what we know:

  • Unlocking your Disneyland Resort Hotel door (Disney-owned hotels only)

  • Allow you to scan into Lightning Lanes during your return time

  • Allow you to use the card on your Disney Account to make purchases at the register

  • Allow you to scan into the park using the MagicBand in place of your paper ticket or the Disneyland App

  • Allow you to redeem a return time with the Disability Access Service

  • Unlock magical experiences like the Play Disney Parks App currently does

Will My Walt Disney World MagicBand Work At Disneyland?

Yes! well, some will. MagicBand+ will work on both coasts, however the original MagicBand and MagicBand 2 will not work at DIsneyland.

We hope that you’re just as excited about the MagicBands arriving in Disneyland as we are! if you would like to stay informed on Disney park news, consider following us on social media and subscribing to our newsletter.
