Expedition Everest closed for lengthy refurbishment in early 2022

The guest-favorite coaster located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be closed from January 4 2022 until mid-April 2022.

Expedition Everest coaster brings guests on an excursion up to the top of Everest, only to discover that the tracks have been broken by the infamous Yeti. After being sent backwards through the mountain, guests then must try to survive and escape Mount Everest as they avoid the Yeti.

The length of closure had many Disney fans excited that Disney World might FINALLY be fixing the giant animatronic Yeti that has famously never really worked. The Yeti was placed into what's called "B-mode." In this mode, the Yeti is completely motionless, and a strobe light effect is added that gives the illusion of movement.

Unfortunately the closure will not see any improvements to the ride nor any repairs on the Disco Yeti (Yeti animatronic figure). Fixing the Yeti is not on the priority list during this shutdown and some upgrades to the tech and track are more likely to be what is worked on.

Sadly, guests who are planning an early 2021 visit to Walt Disney World should plan on Expedition Everest not to be available during your visit.
