Splash Mountain Closing Permanently for Reimagining

Hey Disney Parks fans, we have some bitter-sweet news to Bring you all today. The Walt Disney Company has officially announced that Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) will be CLOSING on January 23rd, 2023. To be clear, the ride’s last operating day will be January 22nd, it will then be CLOSED starting January 23rd. The ride will be unavailable for a while as it gets its new theme.

This attraction is a beloved favorite for many park goers, and we’re sure there will be many sad to hear the news about this announcement. Those who are sad, remember this Walt quote: “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”

With the reimagining of Splash Mountain, it will bring a new attraction, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! The all-new adventure which will bring guests into the world of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ film “The Princess and the Frog”.

Like all great Disney attractions, ther’re a story behind the ride! The story takes place after the ending of the film around 1927. Tiana's Palace has become enough of a success that Tiana and Naveen decided to expand their business and establish an employee owned food cooperative, Tiana's Foods, which has purchased an old salt mine to serve as a headquarters. As Tiana prepares to host a large party for Mardi Gras, she and the guests journey into the bayou to find a key ingredient for the festivities.

Walt Disney Imagineers have been frequent travelers to Louisiana while conducting extensive research to ensure Tiana’s Bayou Adventure preserves the heart and soul of the city that inspired Princess Tiana’s story. Imagineers have received inspiration from all over the region and learned from local experts along the way. This attraction will also include new ride technology and animatronics.
